Darrel has over 30 years of experience in Asset Financing. His expertise has been developed through both international and local experience, including six years living and working in the United Kingdom, as well as extensive work in New Zealand.
Self-employed since 1998, Darrel gained his Real Estate Sales License in 2002, specialising in rural and lifestyle properties. His deep understanding of the agricultural sector is further supported by hands-on experience, having spent 12 months working full-time on a dairy farm and establishing his own Angus cattle pedigree stud.
Darrel was instrumental in founding the New Plymouth based Joes Garage Charity Cycle Riders. He led the organisation of the group’s inaugural charity rides, across the South Island in 2015 and the North Island in 2016. These rides were created to raise awareness about mental health challenges, suicide, and their profound effects on individuals, families, and the wider community. Over the past eight years, the group has raised more than $500,000 for local charities, with a focus on mental health and the Taranaki Life Education Trust. The group remains active today.
Due to the level of funds raised and to ensure governance and accountability, Darrel helped establish a charitable trust that provides transparent oversight of financial matters.
He currently represents the New Plymouth District Council (NPDC) on the Te Tai Pari Board, a role in which he contributes to the development of investment policies for the proceeds from Waitara leasehold section sales. The board oversees a fund currently valued at approximately $22 million, which is released annually to support community growth in Waitara. Darrel is currently the Chairperson of the Board.
Darrel is also a founding trustee of the Taranaki Trail Trust, an initiative focused on developing walking and cycling trails throughout the Taranaki region.
In his spare time, Darrel enjoys staying active with his family and participating in social cycling.
