About Emma
Passionate about property and people. I began my career as a property lawyer in 2000 and bring a deep understanding of real estate, backed by decades of hands-on experience across property investment, ownership, development, and sales. Since moving to Nelson in 2009, my husband and I have re-opened and operated the local icon McCashin’s Brewery, raised three children (alongside six chooks, three dogs, six goats and three lambs), and completed three renovations, multiple build projects, and several subdivisions. This real-world experience allows me to offer practical, grounded advice that goes well beyond theory. I combine strategic marketing, strong negotiation skills, and clear, upfront advice to help my clients achieve the best possible outcome. Each property is marketed with a tailored approach designed to attract the right buyers, create competition, and maximise value. My legal background and calm negotiating style are particularly valuable when deals become complex, conditions tighten, or problems need solving. I take a hands-on, solutions-focused approach and often bring creative, out-of-the-box ideas drawn from real-world experience. I’m known for being down-to-earth, approachable, and having a good sense of humour — qualities that help put people at ease during what can be a stressful process. I work closely with out-of-town owners and older vendors, regularly assisting with organising tradies, coordinating pre-sale work, and managing the many moving parts involved in preparing a property for market. My goal is to make the process as smooth, supported, and stress-free as possible. In the office, I’m affectionately known as “DEFIB” (short for defibrillator) — because even when a deal looks flatlined, I don’t give up. I’ll work hard to revive it, and often do. Give me a call — I’d love to hear from you. 2025 – Runner Up Salesperson of the Year Summit – Summit Champions Club 2024 – 4th in Summit – Summit Champions Club 2023 – Summit Rookie of the Year – Summit Champions Club How I help: · Strategic marketing, not templates I design tailored marketing campaigns that position each property to attract the right buyers, create genuine competition, and maximise value — rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach. · Strong, calm negotiation With a background in property law, I’m skilled at navigating complex negotiations, conditions, and contracts, always protecting my clients’ interests while keeping deals alive and moving forward. · Clear, honest advice from day one From pricing and method of sale through to timing and presentation, I provide practical, upfront guidance so clients can make confident, informed decisions. · Hands-on support to prepare your property for market I regularly assist with organising tradies, coordinating pre-sale work, and managing the details — particularly for out-of-town owners or older vendors who want extra support. · Solutions when challenges arise When things don’t go to plan (and sometimes they don’t), I focus on problem-solving, creative thinking, and finding workable solutions rather than walking away. · A calm, approachable presence I understand property decisions are both financial and emotional. I’m down-to-earth, easy to talk to, and known for putting people at ease throughout the process.

About Brian
Brian's a born and bred Nelsonian who grew up helping out in the family agricultural contracting business in rural Appleby. You might have even spotted a young Brian behind the wheel of a Sangster Contracting tractor helping locals make a living off their land - an early introduction to the value of commitment, family, and getting your hands dirty. Brian's interest in property developed from watching his grandfather renovate properties in the 90s, leading him to purchase and renovate his first property at 21. He turned that first opportunity into 2 further 'renovate and resell' projects as he climbed the property ladder. Brian's now settled in a local lifestyle block with 3 generations of the family, including new daughter, a cat, 2 dogs, and 12 sheep. Brian is an experienced tradesman, a fully qualified linesman and mechanic, with a knack for practical jobs and a tradie's eye for detail. Brian brings his firsthand knowledge of property, honest work ethic, and the insight of a Nelson local to achieve the best possible result for you and your family. Contact Brian for any advice on selling or buying, or just for a yarn about all things property.

Reliable, solutions focused and a great communicator.

We first met Brian at an open home and were impressed by his friendly manner and the seemingly genuine interest he showed in our situation. His follow-up was proactive without being pushy and it soon became apparent that he is the type of person we could easily work with. During the process of listing our property, Brian gave sound advice as to what work would be beneficial and what would be superfluous. He gave a realistic appraisal of the worth of our property in the current market and had local examples available for comparison. Brian focused on key features of our property that gave it a point of difference and the advertising package he collated appealed to prospective buyers so that open homes were well attended. He also facilitated many private viewings. The sale of our property was achieved after little more than a month on the market and the successful purchaser's offer was one of several presented. During the time on the market, Brian maintained timely communication with us so that we were always well informed. His practical approach and connections with local building professionals enabled him to answer questions posed by prospective buyers and were also advantageous as we progressed on to purchasing our next property. From the perspective of a buyer, Brian ensured that he made us aware of any properties coming onto the market that might suit our needs without wasting time on those that would be unsuitable. He also proved to be an effective negotiator by being honest, realistic and an effective communicator throughout the process. Although we worked mainly with Brian, he and Emma proved to be a very effective team who worked well together and whose skills complemented each other. Emma's superb efficiency and depth of knowledge of the local market were invaluable. In summary, I would not hesitate to recommend Team Emma and Brian to anyone considering entering the property market in the Nelson region and I thank them for the work completed on our behalf.

Great communication, quick responses, helpful knowledge

As first home buyers, we were clueless as to the process of everything. Emma talked us through all the steps and what was involved. Dealing with overseas vendors meant the time zones were different. Emma was always available and made it easy to communicate and get things done as quick as we could. Emma was professional, but also made us feel comfortable and at ease with the whole process. We felt recognised and valued, not just seen as buyer for their clients.

Exceptional Service from Start to Finish

Selling a property can be stressful at the best of times, but our sale became significantly more complicated than anyone could have anticipated. Throughout the entire process, Brian and Emma were absolutely outstanding. From the outset, they demonstrated an excellent understanding of the local market and provided honest, practical advice that gave us confidence in every decision. Their communication was exceptional and they kept us informed at every stage, responded promptly to questions, and ensured that nothing was left uncertain. Even when there wasn't much news, they kept in touch, which made a real difference. Where they really excelled, however, was when unexpected challenges arose. The sale encountered a number of hurdles. Brian and Emma handled every issue calmly, professionally, and with remarkable patience. They remained focused on finding solutions rather than dwelling on problems, and their persistence played a huge part in keeping the transaction alive. What impressed me most was that they genuinely cared about achieving the best possible outcome for everyone involved. They balanced the interests of both buyer and seller with integrity, maintained constructive relationships throughout, and never lost sight of the end goal. Their experience and professionalism were evident in every interaction. I am sincerely grateful for everything they did to help us reach an unconditional sale despite the many obstacles along the way. I cannot recommend them highly enough. If you're looking for estate agents who are knowledgeable, trustworthy, proactive and genuinely committed to their clients, Brian and Emma are exactly the people you want representing you.
