Having bought and sold a few properties in the past, we knew exactly what we wanted in the way of a real estate agent. In my opinion, too many sellers are tempted to list with the agent who suggests the highest selling price. Or an agent who is a long term friend. Or someone who lives close to the property being sold. All too often, the agent who suggested the highest selling price is the first one to come along after a few weeks asking that the price be lowered to "meet the market". We wanted an agent with a proven track record selling properties similar to ours. An agent who handles open homes in a professional manner. An agent who knows people in the area and knows how to network with those people. Basically, we wanted an agent that understands marketing. If that agent happens to be a good friend, that's a bonus, but not a requirement. After considerable thought, we felt that we would like to have two agents jointly responsible for selling our property.
