It can be an uncomfortable experience deciding to sell the family home, a place you have occupied for many years. The sale process is something that most of us are not very familiar with and there are plenty of traps for the unwary amateur. Fortunately, we had already met Gary Potter when we purchased our Bayswater property many years before. We had been favourably impressed then and so the choice of agent was easy for us. We knew that Gary was very experienced and from occasional contact over the years also knew that his market knowledge was vast and that he was a good communicator. We also knew from seeing signs around the area that he had been joined by his son, Ben Potter. What we did not appreciate, having never met Ben, was what a great benefit he brought to the partnership and therefore to us. I am familiar with the concept of a whole being greater than the sum of its parts and that good partnerships adhere to that concept, but I have not seen the principle demonstrated quite so strongly before. Ben is good at the technical stuff which must be a relief for Gary but he also has a good eye and judgement about presentation (including photos) and how to show off a property to make it look the best it can be. So, with the Potters you get a team that is more than two people working alongside each other. There is a synergy that enhances their efforts so that the whole is more than the sum of its parts. The Whatsapp group they set up was invaluable to us in keeping us informed in a timely fashion. They get an A+ from us for communication. We had a few setbacks along the way but the Potters never lost their enthusiasm or determination to sell the property and kept us feeling positive as well. All in all they demonstrated to us that they had a good understanding of what a professional performance looks like and walked the talk.
Ben (together with Gary) was professional throughout, including in advising me on matters before I had resolved to list with Harcourts. Ben was friendly and knowledgeable throughout. A complete service, including excellent reporting, was provided up until the house sale went unconditional. I was happy with the price achieved given market conditions. I would happily recommend Ben.
