According to Karl Polanyi Western society went through a great transformation in the middle of the 19th century when its economy was disembedded or divorced from the social. This divorce encouraged people (and companies) to become greedy; exploiting the environment and neighbours for profit. Polanyi, writing in the 1940s, foresaw that this would lead to the majority being dislocated through vice, crime and starvation; and our environment turned into a wilderness. Part of the solution to our ecological woes is to return our economy to the social. Economic transactions must take a similar form (or ethic) to transactions done with your family. When I looked around Hamilton for an agent to sell my house I found that Tracey and Warren came closest to embracing this ethic. Although they have not written a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy yet, and I hope they do so in the near future, there were features I saw in my dealings with them that I look for in a CSR policy. For example, I am retired and wanting to move to Lower Hutt to be nearer family, and need a certain amount to buy a property there. I have no substantial savings. Warren and Tracey were quick to recognise my situation and negotiated a reduced fee; and I in turn was able to accept a reduction in market value (compared to the Govt Valuation) in order to facilitate a speedy sale. From that reduced fee they were still able to buy me some choice wines as a farewell gift. I look forward to seeing CSRs that return excess profits to customers.

Overall it was a very positive experience with Tracey. She was easy to talk to and she was always positive and motivated. Tracey was always available and no question was ever any trouble. I would definitely recommend her and use her in the future.
