We have been absent from Dunedin for several months and we protected the vacant house in the heart of winter for insurance purposes by switching off the water pump which is obviously straight forward to re-start. With regards to the non-retracting but operational range hood we made it clear that we would accept the buyer's conditional contract on the proviso there was to be no re-negotiation as there was other interest and we were at our bottom line. Also I understand Lydia assisted the buyers in the winter evenings, to work in with their timeframes, with multiple viewings and with the pre-settlement inspection. She also arranged with us for the buyers to receive, outside of the agreement, for a large number of extra chattels at no cost. Buying and selling houses does have stress and we certainly had our share after being on the market for longer than we had hoped but our agents were able to minimize that stress for us and for that we are eternally thankful. Lydia was very friendly and very easy to deal with however I felt that she did in some cases tell us what we wanted to hear. The examples I am referring to are the extraction on the hob, when I first mention this Lydia's response left us believing it was working or would be fixed when this is not the case. Secondly on our final inspection the day before settlement I checked that the water pressure was all good (again I mentioned this on our very first viewing of the house) Lydia had to check with a colleague who told her to turn on a switch in the garage and Lydia literally did try light switches instead of the mains water isolator. I could not help but feel she should know more about a property she is trying to sell. It left me feeling very frustrated as this was something I had mentioned on our very first visit only to be in a position where we did not know how good or bad the water pressure was until after we had moved in. The final example I feel I need to mention was during the days leading up to going unconditional, Lydia told me that "our building inspector did not need to see the LIM report" and that she would "square this away with our solicitor" her exact words, when in fact our solicitor insisted the building inspector confirmed the LIM matched his inspection. Knowing this was the first time we had purchased a house in NZ this left us feeling totally unsupported from the realtor. And I would almost say that this caused stress when it was not needed. Lydia was lovely to deal with so please support her with some additional training in these areas.

I met Lydia at one of her open homes, many months after I began my house-hunting journey. I communicated to Lydia about my likes, dislikes and struggles and shared with her my eagerness to work with her to help me find a property. She very kindly accepted. She is kind, dedicated, hard-working, supportive and I found her regular communication ie just saying hello, how are you feeling, sharing links of open homes, is what helped me the most through this process. She went the extra mile for me and I will forever be grateful for that. House-hunting can be stressful and tiring and Lydia very graciously shared that stress load with me.
