At present, the property is administered by the Corboy House Trust, a hat tip to the well-known Akaroa family who lived there. David Corboy (brother of John Corboy, owner of the Four Square in the 1970s and 1980s), was a journalist at the Christchurch Press. The house dates back to the late 1860's or early 1870s, but little is known about the original owners. An 1852 map of Akaroa shows virtually the whole valley owned by the local magistrate, John Watson, who built his Mt Leinster property further up the valley.
