David Corboy (brother of John Corboy, owner of the Four Square in the 1970s and 1980s), was a journalist at the Christchurch Press. The house dates back to the late 1860's or early 1870s, but little is known about the original owners. An 1852 map of Akaroa shows virtually the whole valley owned by the local magistrate, John Watson, who built his Mt Leinster property further up the valley. Brilliant Result among the Turbulance

Jackie Maw took on this monstrosity of a house with Enthusiasm & Gusto . The house went to Auction but failed to garnish any takers but not surprising given the circumstances - Heritage Listing & derelict state. However managed to secure a brilliant outcome with a deadline sale during battles with various lawyers, trustees ,reporters & heritage do gooders. Nothing seemed to phase her and I would be the first to admit that this undertaking was nothing but simple - Jackie got us over the line in the end ... Would not hesitate to use her services again in the future.
